Kent is a top 20 research university (REF 2014) with a thriving intellectual community of students and staff, which provides a dynamic and challenging academic environment informed by an international perspective and worldwide collaboration.

In recognition of this research excellence, Kent receives Research Council awards from the ESRC, AHRC, BBSRC, MRC, STFC and NERC and is an active partner in four research consortia: Environmental East Doctoral Training Partnership (EnvEast DTP); South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS); Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South East England (CHASE); and Eastern Academic Research Consortium (Eastern ARC).

We offer a range of research opportunities across the arts and humanities, social sciences, medical studies, and science and technology.  An example is the cross disciplinary research within the Global Challenges Doctoral Centre which offers scholarships to doctoral researchers addressing the challenges of economic development and well-being.

Kent’s Graduate School runs a variety of programmes to support all postgraduates and its Researcher Development Programme greatly enhances the personal development and career prospects of our students.

Kent is known as the UK’s European university with two campuses and a part-time centre in the UK and specialist postgraduate centres in Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome, where studies are underpinned by the specialist resources of each location. In addition to these centres, we have a large number of academic partnerships across Europe, Asia and the United States including jointly supervised Cotutelles with selected European universities. E

Our £12.2m postgraduate scholarship fund includes fees-only awards, full studentships, location-specific funding, sport and music scholarships, and funding specifically for students who pay overseas fees. We also have a Graduate Teaching Assistantship scheme whereby postgraduate research students receive financial support in return for teaching.
