The University of Southampton has a postgraduate programme to suit you, whether you are looking to extend your study, expand your career horizons or take on a new direction.

A founding member of the Russell Group and one of the UK’s top research-intensive universities, we offer postgraduate education across a wide range of subjects including Health and Life Sciences, Engineering, Law, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. A large variety of PhD studentships and sponsorships are available each year, which are advertised on the University’s current job vacancies page.

Many of our studentships are funded through one of the UK Research Councils. Successful UK applicants receive fees and maintenance support while EU students receive a fees-only grant. Other studentships are offered in collaboration with partners in industry, research project grants or charities, and are available to both UK/EU and international applicants.

The University is committed to supporting postgraduate research students in every way – professional development courses are available throughout the year; our career service offers dedicated support for PGR students; and Graduate Schools provide subject-specific training courses and host social events.
